Q3 I found a lost article. What should I do with this?

Please return it to the original owner or bring it to the police station or Koban.

  • When you find an article on the street:
  • Please return it to the owner or bring it to the police station or Koban immediately.
    If you don't report it to the police within 7 days from the day you found, you will lose your right to receive a reward money when the owner is found or you will lose your right to receive the ownership of the found article when the owner is not found.
  •  When you find an article in the train or in the facilities such as a department store or an amusement park:

  • Please report it to the station master or a manager of the facilities.
    If you don't report it to the police within 24 hours from the time you found, you will lose your right to receive a reward money when the owner is found or lose your right to receive the ownership of the found article when the owner is not found.

  • When the owner is found:

  • You acquire the right to receive a reward money which is from 5 to 20 percents of the value of the article. (If you find an article inside the facilities, a reward money is split in half between you and a manager of the facility.)

  • When the owner is not found:
  • If the owner doesn't appear within 3 months (6 months for buried articles) from the day a public announcement of the found article is made, the reporter will acquire the right to own the found article. The reporter is able to claim this right for 2 months from the day the reporter acquired this right.
